The Sommernachts Konzert is an annual outdoor event organized by the Vienna Philharmonic since 2008. Before this series, between the years 2004 and 2007, there was another suite of concerts presented by the same institution under the banner "Concert for Europe". Vienna's Schönbrunn Palace Park is the venue for these concerts, which have been conducted in the past by illustrious conductors such as Georges Prêtre, Daniel Barenboim, Franz Welser-Möst, Gustavo Dudamel and Daniel Harding.

In the 2022 edition, the event took place on June 16th, under the baton of Andris Nelsons, one of the most appreciated conductors of the moment. Nelsons, a Latvian musician who is currently the director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.

The recording of this concert appeared on disc at Sony Classical, being released on July 8th, 2022.

It was a special event, followed both online and on radio and television channels, by millions of music lovers from over 80 countries. For the first time after the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic, the Vienna Summer Nights Concert took place without restrictions for the public. The program was an attractive one that included, among others, pieces by Beethoven, Saint-Saëns, Rossini and Dvorak, but also lesser-known works from the Latvian and Ukrainian repertoire. The Vienna Philharmonic celebrated its 180th anniversary this year and chose "The Musical Heritage of Europe" as the theme for its summer concert atSchönbrunn. In this context, he presented pieces written by the composers Mykola Lysenko, Myroslav Skoryk and Arturs Maskats. The Orchestra also included in its program at Schönbrunn a famous Romanian score - Rhapsody no. 1 in A major by George Enescu.

The soloist of the event was Gautier Capucon, one of the most famous cellists in the world - present for the first time in the summer concerts at Schönbrunn. He debuted as a soloist of the Vienna Philharmonic in 2015. And currently he is an artist in residence at the Paris Philharmonic and the Vienna Konzerthaus. For the concert at Schönbrunn, the French cellist chose Concerto no. 1 op. 33 by Camille Saint-Saëns.
