Organist Anna-Victoria Baltrusch- the album "Liszt-The Organ Composer"- CD Review, 7th of October 2022

On October 7th, 2022 is being officially released the newest album of the organist Anna Victoria Baltrusch, a 33 years old German musician who has a prolific international career after in 2009 she won the International Organ Competition of the Bach Society Wiesbaden. Born in Berlin, the artist studied protestant music, organ and piano at Univeristy of Music in Freiburg and, in the last years, she has been performing a bountiful concert activity in Europe; she collaborated with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Branderburg Orchestra and with Westfalia Philharmonic. She was a teacher at the University of Music from Leipzig, organist in Tonhalle and led the TonArt chamber choir in Zurich. Currently, she teaches organ at the University of Evangelical Music in Halle, where she has been named, at the beggining of the current season, the titular organist for the Ulrichskirche concert hall. Also this autumn, Anna Victoria Baltrusch released two albums, both at the music label Audite, one containing works signed by German composers and organists of the 19th century, and the second recorded at Hofkirche Lucerna, incorporating works by Franz Liszt.

Franz Listz was not a virtuous organist, not finding in this instrument the same ways of expression he could find in the piano. And yet, he oftenly played the organ, even in the years he had tours as a pianist. In 1893 he played the organ of San Luigi dei Francesi church from Rome, and during his time in Weimar, in the middle of the 19th century, the organ beacome even more important for him, perhaps given the fact that he had the opportunity to meet and work with respectable organists from Thuringia, such as Johann Gottlieb Töpfer, Carl Müller Hartung or Alexander Wilhelm Gottschlag. Furthermore, his own religious aspirations and his desire to become a priest made Franz Liszt to write holy music for the organ. His scores dedicated to this instrument fall into three categories: in the first one, there are the main works- revolutionary as a form, harmonic structures and virtuosity. The second category incorporates organ arrangements of scores such as Agnus Dei from Missa da Requiem by Verdi or the Pilgrim's Chorus by Wagner. And Listzt's late creations for the organ are short works which were played during the Catholic Mass, defined by a sober, simple and deeply spiritual ambiance. All of these highlight the impeccable technique and the musicality of the organist Anna Victoria Baltrusch.
