"Performing the concertos for flute and orchestra by Mozart is the same problem for a flutist as the sonatas and partitas of Bach for a violinist or the suites of the same pre-classical composer for a cellist. The problem is encountered when these masterpieces enter the repertoire of some performers too early", the experienced flautist Alexis Kossenko tells us in the presentation material of his latest album which includes the two concertos by Mozart dedicated to the flute - KV 313 and 314, the Concerto in C major for flute, harp and orchestra and the Andante KV 315 created by the same Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The French flautist wonders how you can offer them a personal and at the same time objective interpretation when these pieces are so familiar. How can you escape the limitations of tradition and appreciate the Mozart Concertos in a mature way? We can find out the answer by listening to the album of Alexis Kossenko, one of the most appreciated flautists in the world, premiered on Radio Romania Muzical. He plays on period and modern instruments, covering a wide repertoire, from the music of Vivaldi to that of the 20th century. He has collaborated with renowned ensembles such as Concerto Copenhagen, the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, the Stockholm Philharmonic or the Geneva Gli Angeli Orchestra led by Stephan MacLeod, with whom he recorded his recent album. The 45-year-old flautist, who studied at the Paris Conservatoire with renowned musician Alain Marion, says he was never driven by a desire to do things differently at any cost in his playing style, but to try to understand what each individual score has to say - a vision that Alexis Kossenko also applies in the interpretation of Mozart's Flute and Orchestra Concertos.

The Gli Angeli ensemble from Geneva was founded in 2005 by the Swiss bassist and conductor Stephan Macleod. The orchestra plays on historical instruments and is made up of musicians passionate about baroque and classical creations, presenting with stylistic accuracy pages signed by composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Heinrich Schütz, Dietrich Buxtehude or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The ensemble has seasons of about 10 concerts every year in Geneva, it has also performed on stages in Barcelona, Stuttgart, Brussels, Paris and in other prestigious European halls. They have released eight albums so far, receiving in 2019 an ICMA (International Classical Music Award) award for the disc dedicated to the sacred music of the 17th century from Wroclaw. The most recent discographic achievement of the Gli Angeli orchestra is the album containing Mozart's concertos for flute and orchestra, CD released on October 7th, 2022, at the Swiss Label Claves Records.
