Bremer Barockorchester, conductor Néstor Fabian Cortés Garzon - CD Review, 12th of May 2023 Georg Philipp Telemann - Concerto in A minor for viola da gamba, blockflöte and orchestra (Lina Manrique, Anninka Fohgrub); Selections from the Les Nations Suite.

The Bremen Baroque Orchestra was founded in 2015 and operates under the direction of the Colombian cellist Nestor Fabian Cortes Garzon. Made exclusively by early music specialists, the ensemble dedicated itself to baroque aesthetics and the orchestral repertoire of the 18th century, to which it brought extra freshness through authentic, colorful, well-documented interpretations. The orchestra performs concerts both in Germany and on international stages and has so far collaborated with leading artists in the field of baroque music, such as Johannes Pramsohler, Alfredo Bernardini and Dorothee Oberlinger.

In 2021, the ensemble released its debut album, with works by Johann Sebastian Bach, nominated for the International Classical Music Awards. And on the 24th of March of this year, at the same German house Arcantus Music Produktion, the second record of the orchestra appeared, which includes pieces by Georg Philipp Telemann, a successful composer who lived in the flourishing baroque period and combined , in his orchestral suites, the French forms with the German, Italian and Polish musical style. His fame took him to renowned cultural centers in Eisenach, Leipzig, Sorau, Frankfurt and Hamburg. He settled in the last mentioned city in 1721 and remained there until the end of his life, occupying the position of musical director of the most imposing cathedrals in Hamburg. In that last phase of his life, Telemann composed an impressive number of orchestral suites for various occasions or at the request of the city authorities. The pieces that the Bremen Baroque Orchestra chose for its new album also date from the mentioned period: the Les Nations suite inspired by the music of the European peoples, the Music of the Waters and the Concerto in A minor for flute, viola da gamba and orchestra, soloists - Lina Manrique and Anninka Fohgrub. The Bremen Orchestra offers us a vigorous, stylistically homogeneous interpretation, emphasizing the dancing rhythms and expressiveness of Georg Philipp Telemann's music.
