Erik Truffaz - "Rollin" - Jazzy hour, June 6th, 2023
Any album released by Eric Truffaz inspires us, delights us and gives us what music usually brings with sounds. A defined state and grounds for discussion. Each album sends us somewhere, whether it's an imaginary world described in a musical language, or it's the music of a film, with all those sound marks that complete a picture. In 2020, Eric received the proposal to write the music for a documentary film and later a set of themes adapted from French cinema to close a festival. From here came the idea to release two albums, "Rollin'" being the first of them. Some themes are easily recognizable, being offered by the trumpet with discreet ornaments, the electric piano colors the space between the notes and the rhythmic section intervenes punctually. It doesn't take much more to perfectly outline the atmosphere that we can fully feel, given the way the musicians match in timbre and tension. Although the themes come from various films, the repertoire gives the impression of a single montage, of a well-conceived, fluent and dynamic concert. Nino Rota, Miles Davis and Ennio Morricone meet where Eric Truffaz knows how to find their common ground, connected to the source and innovative through the newness. Sometimes it's enough to have the right music to watch a good movie.
