Artemis – the album “In Real Time” – Jazzy hour, November 7th 2023
Back to the female musical group, Artemis, whose debut we have listened to at Jazzy Hour in 2020. After three years, the continuation is decided, with more composition and experience. In addition to the jazz with specific swing, modern air and well-cut edges on the album "In Real Time", dynamic wind instruments and tempo are added. This more solid sound is due to the attractive arrangements and line-up change. Ingrid Jensen remains on trumpet, Nicole Glover replaces Melissa Aldana on tenor sax and clarinetist Anat Cohen leaves her place to the saxophonist Alexa Tarantino. Pianist Renee Rosnes remains the leader and the rhythm section is the same, with Noriko Ueda on double bass and Allison Miller on drums. The quality of the album lies in the way in which the different styles converge towards a clear and inspired representation of the compositions. And the solos support each other, giving the atmosphere of a great concert. It's perfectly normal considering that the album was recorded after the group played for a week at the Birdland club in New York. We can feel the chemistry between the group members, based on cultural and generational differences. Artemis continues to keep us involved in their flamboyant music without showing any sign of capping.
