Brian Blade & The Fellowship band - Kings Highway album - Jazzy Hour, October 10th, 2023

It so happens that some musicians are very active, which means that they are very good, especially when it comes to the first Jazz league. Well-known and experienced instrumentalists are invited to take part in dozens of projects, and they are celebrated everywhere. The only issue they face is that they don't really have time to work on their own projects, their own discography, which is proof of a lack of certain projects that need even dozens of years to be put together. For example, exceptional drum player Brian Blade has established his own group, Fellowship, through which he expands the revised language of jazz through a sublime instrument correlation. Blade started his career not only as a vigorous tradition bearer, but also as a worthy collaborator of artists such as Joni Mitchell or Bob Dylan. The Fellowship Band creates the ideal environment for him to keep his musical sense and the emotional expressiveness of instrumental music. And Kings Highway is the album released in 2023, which shares the magic again. Pianist John Cowherd shares in Blade's interest in well-thought out design and join him as a true co-pilot, just as Lyle Mays did with Pat Metheny, saxophone players Myron Walden and Melvin Butler are often observed in fierce dialogues, the rhythm is maintained by bass player Christopher Thomas, and guitar music is produced by the only and only Kurt Rosenwinkel. Kings Highway was released at the right time to showcase this group's best work, the most refined material they have so far. Many more albums are being released, and some really convey that spirit which cannot be defined except through total abandonment in listening to it, and which makes us believe that music will always have something new, unique, fascinating to offer. How amazing that Brian Blade found time to release this album!
