There are musical creations with multiple effects, I wouldn't use the word "spiritual" loosely, but some artists make you listen and at the same time giving you space for contemplation. We don't levitate, we don't reach metaphysical dimensions, but we experience a complex experience given by the ability of some musicians to transport us through warm melodies and timeless orchestrations. Phi-Psonics, for example, an American group led by bassist Seth Ford-Young, with Sylvain Carton on wind instruments, Mitchell Yoshida on electric piano and Josh Collazo on drums, forms its musical direction from an experience that encompasses jazz and classical music. Together they form a sound all their own, appealing to the attentive listener as well as those prone to introspection. This is by no means background music for snoozing in yoga poses, but a production that contains emotion, improvisation and shifting landscapes, continuing a fairly old tradition of meditative jazz, through which one can freely and joyfully navigate. 'Octava' is the group's second album. Music has always had the power to unite, to change, to encourage us to access our own better and newer versions. We move, sometimes we struggle, we think, and then we need to breathe so we can enjoy what we have achieved. Then we discover a new version, which works at a better level, sometimes even an octave away. Nothing complicated, especially when we choose the right artists to accompany us.
