Accordionist Eliomar Landim- The record 'Accordion Baroque' - CD Review, 28th of February 2024

Transcriptions after compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach and Domenico Scarlatti.

Eliomar Landim is a talented Brazilian musician, an accordion virtuoso, teacher and composer who has made a name for himself on the international concert stage, introducing his instrument to the world of classical music, instrument known more for its traditional profile. Appreciated for his outstanding technique and the charm of his interpretive style, Eliomar Landim has so far recorded two albums - the first in 2017 with his own accordion transcriptions of works from different periods, from pre-classical to modern music. And earlier this year he released a new album on the Brazilian label Azul Music, dedicated to the Baroque repertoire. The CD features works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Domenico Scarlatti, arranged by Eliomar Landim. The first two pieces were recorded with the participation of the well-known Italian violinist Emmanuele Baldini.

Born in the Brazilian city Sao Jose dos Campos, Eliomar Landim began studying the accordion at the age of 7 and throughout his career he has dedicated himself to adapting classical music to his instrument. He studied with Toninho Ferragutti in his hometown and with Emanuele Rastelli in Italy, and in 2015 he graduated from the Conservatory of Sao Paolo. He currently teaches classical and traditional accordion, students from Brazil, USA, China and Canada attending his class. He has also distinguished himself as a composer and arranger - he composed a concerto for accordion and orchestra in 2022, being influenced by Astor Piazzola and Toninho Ferragutti. So Eliomar Landim is a complex and eloquent musician, and his recent album is proof of that.

About this performer, his renowned accordionist and teacher Toninho Ferragutti says: "Eliomar Landim is fantastic, very coherent. We needed someone to play classical music on the accordion, someone with the knowledge he has. So I feel immensely happy to see him filling this space." Indeed, Eliomar Landim has this merit, that he has given classical music a new colour and originality through his accordion playing, and has also broadened the repertoire for his instrument through the original compositions and arrangements he has given to famous baroque, romantic and modern creations.
