Chamber Orchestra of the Czech Philharmonic in Pardubice, conductor Marek ©tilec. Eduard Strauss - CD Review, March 21, 2024
Eduard Strauss - Waltzes op. 104, 111, 153 and 216.
The year 2016 is filling a century, since Eduard Strauss, a member of the famous Strauss dynasty of composers, passed away. Although he is much less remembered than his famous brothers Johann and Josef, Eduard Strauss was a master of elegant orchestrations, composing polkas, waltzes and gallops that were now being sung for more than a century in the most glittering and lavish Viennese balls.
To mark this commemoration, the Chamber Orchestra of the Czech Philharmonic from the city of Pardubice started the complete recording of this composer's works. The first volume of the discography project "Eduard Strauss - A Centenary Celebration" appeared in 2017, the next two years later, and the third disc from this collection was released on February 23, 2024, being included in the project "Discs of the year 2024". Recorded in August 2022 at the House of Music in Pardubice, with the support of the Johann Strauss Society in Great Britain, the album appeared under the Marco Polo label, a record label founded in 1982 with the aim of releasing world premiere recordings, with works from the second half of the 19th century and from the first decades of the next century.
The album is dedicated to the memory of the British conductor John Georgiadis, who passed away in 2021, a musician who led the Chamber Orchestra of the Czech Philharmonic in Pardubice in the recordings of the first two volumes dedicated to the creation of Eduard Strauss.
The third volume of this collection was recorded under the guidance of conductor Marek ©tilec, a 39-year-old Czech musician, specialist in classical and contemporary repertoire; he has so far collaborated with ensembles such as Sinfonietta Bratislava, Camerata Berlin or New World Symphony.
