Christopher Williams - album "Mendelssohn - Piano Rarities" - CD Review March 22nd, 2022
Cardiff University is one of the UK's most prestigious educational institutions with a history of over 140 years, with truth, unity and harmony as its motto. The University's School of Music concert hall was the venue for the recording of the recent album by pianist Christopher Williams, an experienced Welsh musician, composer, conductor and professor at Cardiff University. The album is entitled 'Mendelssohn - Piano Rarities' and features lesser-known pieces from the works of the great composer born in Hamburg in 1809: sonatas, wordless songs and other miniature piano pieces.
Christopher Williams studied with Walter Ryan and collaborated with talented instrumentalists of his generation such as Tim Thorpe, Philippe Schartz, David Pyatt and his wife, oboist Catherine Tanner Williams. The musician is a Fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Cardiff University, and is accompanist pianist for the BBC National Choir and Orchestra. He has so far released 14 albums of varied programmes, developing a particular interest in less explored types of repertoire.
