An album to be released by the Swedish house Bis on 2^nd August 2024: works for violin and piano by Edward Elgar, recorded by violinist Ulf Wallin and pianist Roland Pontinen. The album is called Mot d'amour, taking the title of one of the songs on the album; here we find one of the most famous chamber works by Elgar - Sonata for violin and piano, but also a bouquet of miniatures for violin and piano, among them, the famous Salut d 'amour, Chanson de nuit and Chanson de matin.

I cannot help but appreciate the delicacy and impeccable taste with which the two interpret the music of Edward Elgar, eminently romantic and therefore easily susceptible to be interpreted kitschios, by outbidding the romantic elements.

Like the critic from the British magazine Gramophone, I think there would be some comments to be made regarding the performance of the sonata for violin and piano by Elgar, recorded by Ulf Wallin and Roland Pontinen, starting from a few intonational approximations and continuing with the general conception, which could be better assembled and conducted. Somewhat surprising for a violinist of Ulf Wallin's stature, a professor at the Hanns Eisler Academy in Berlin and the University of Music and Arts in Vienna, with a brilliant international career and numerous discs, many of them award-winning.
