Pianist Jan Lisiecki – the album “Preludes” – Music Box, March 31st, 2025

An album released on March 14th by Deutsche Grammophon label, the album "Preludes" signed by the Canadian-Polish pianist Jan Lisiecki.

The central point of the album is the complete set of the 24 Preludes Op. 28 by Frédéric Chopin, but on this disc we can also hear preludes from The Well-Tempered Clavier by Johann Sebastian Bach, Preludes by Sergei Rachmaninov, Olivier Messiaen, and Henryk Górecki.

A kaleidoscopic world, that of the preludes, through whose universe Jan Lisiecki, this extraordinary 30-year-old pianist born in Canada to Polish parents, takes us. He debuted at Deutsche Grammophon label at a very young age: he signed the contract at 15, his first disc appeared in 2012, when he was 17; today, he has reached his eighth disc for the famous German label.

Moreover, we could also listen to Jan Lisiecki at the Enescu Festival, as well as in the live broadcasts transmitted from the European Broadcasting Union network - a pianist who surprises with the maturity of his interpretations and with the ability to tell stories.

On March 26th, the online magazine Classical Review wrote about the album we are listening to today: "Although he himself placed his standards high in his previous recordings, this new album raises Lisiecki's standards of repertoire choice and interpretation to new heights. Each work on the album offers a distinct perspective in exploring the prelude genre, and the stellar interpretation truly offers an extraordinary experience."

I agree with the American critic's statement, to which I would add that Jan Lisiecki is one of those rare pianists who knowshow to build an interpretation note by note - no note is left to chance, each comes following the musical logic of the previous sound. Jan Lisiecki has the knowledge of rubato, which he executes with impeccable taste. And he has the ability to convey emotion and to paint through his music an entire world. This is the feeling I had while listening to the complete set of the 24 Preludes Op. 28 by Frédéric Chopin, in Jan Lisiecki's interpretation.
