Pianist Paul Wee. Ludwig van Beethoven - CD Review, February 12th, 2026

Ludwig van Beethoven - Sonatas No. 28 in A major and 31 in A flat major.

Premiere album released on November 21st, 2025

Paul Wee is a pianist from United Kingdom who also has an important career as a lawyer. As a musician, he has so far released five albums that reveal his affinity for the Classical and Romantic genres. His programs include works by renowned composers: Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Liszt, as well as pieces by lesser known composers such as Adolf von Henselt and Sigismond Thalberg. Paul Wee, aged 38, with Singaporean and Malaysian roots, studied law at the University of Oxford and has an extraordinary passion for classical music.

His debut album, dedicated to the music of Charles Valentin Alkan, was noted by specialist publications and received nominations for the Gramophone Awards and Diapason d'Or. This was followed by four more albums in the discography of the talented pianist, all equally appreciated by international critics. The most recent is this CD, which includes the sonatas from the late creative period of Ludwig van Beethoven, the last five sonatas of the "Titan of Bonn" (Nos. 28-32). These are the most demanding works for solo piano written by the German composer, incorporating contrapuntal techniques in a fugal style and moving away from the conventional sonata form, developing complex structures. The works have emotional scope, alternating delicate and lyrical moments with tumultuous passages, eloquently interpreted by pianist Paul Wee.

The disc, recorded in 2024 at Wyastone Concert Hall in the United Kingdom, was released on November 21st, 2025.
