Pianist Guillaume Coppola – works by Erik Satie. CD Review – February 19th
The album Satie Amoureux was released by French pianist Guillaume Coppola on the occasion of the centenary of the passing of the musical creator Erik Satie. The recording includes well-known works such as Gnossiennes and Gymnopédies, as well as lesser-explored scores that reveal the richness of the creations of the eccentric composer who, although he did not enjoy the appreciation of his professors at the Paris Conservatoire, established himself in the musical world after 1880 and at the beginning of the last century. One of his friends, Igor Stravinsky, described him as "the most interesting man I have ever known and at the same time a special and spiritual personality"; and the composer and critic Alexis Roland-Manuel considered Erik Satie's creations to be "a turning point in the evolution of music, works with an unparalleled harmonic technique, unprecedented, born from a completely new aesthetic, creating a unique atmosphere and magical sonorities."
The album seeks to portray in sound the love relationship that Erik Satie had with the painter Suzanne Valadon. The French artist created a portrait of the composer, the famous 1893 painting that illustrates the cover of this album, situated between ancient and Oriental inspiration, humor, mystical phases, and cabaret music that influenced Erik Satie's творчreation.
