Violinist Marco Serino and pianist Leandro Piccioni – album Cinema Memories. CD Review, February 20th
After recording two albums which include works for violin and orchestra drawn from film scores by Ennio Morricone, violinist Marco Serino released in November, an arrangement for violin and piano of Morricone's Cinema Suite, one of the most important film music composers of the past half century. The album also includes works by John Williams, Leonard Bernstein, Nino Rota, and Myroslav Skoryk.
These recordings were made by Marco Serino together with the late Leandro Piccioni, one year before the Italian pianist's passing in 2023.
Violinist Marco Serino and pianist Leandro Piccioni, Italian musicians with an impressive artistic career, collaborated over the years on various projects with Ennio Morricone. Marco Serino is a professor of violin at the Conservatory of Trento and a researcher in the field of musicology; he has performed on prestigious stages such as the Musikverein in Vienna, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, and the Berlin and Cologne Philharmonics, and has collaborated with Giuliano Carmignola, Bruno Canino, and Leandro Piccioni,pianist, conductor, and composer, and a prolific author of film scores.
The album Cinema Memories, released by the French label Arcana, offers a special sound experience imbued with melancholy and lyricism, comprising some of the most renowned film soundtracks of recent decades.
