Trio L’Atessa. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Divertimenti for Oboe, Clarinet and Bassoon. CD Review – February 26th
In the liner notes to this album, musicologist Giuliano Marco Mattioli writes: "In the mid-1780s, Vienna's artistic evenings resonated with the elegant and cheerful atmosphere of the chamber works composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. One can easily imagine Mozart, newly settled in Vienna, delighting in the city's vibrant musical life, meeting close friends in lively salons. It was within such an intimate setting that the instrumental Divertimenti K 439b were born-not for the general public, but for private musical gatherings." The five divertimenti for wind instruments are appealing for their melodic richness and the concision of their forms. These works are included on the album released in December by the Italian ensemble Trio l'Attesa, under the Da Vinci Classics label.
Trio l'Attesa is an ensemble founded in the autumn of 2022, made up of French oboist Charles Raoult Graïc, Italian bassoonist Maria Chiara Bignozzi, and Italian clarinetist Sofia Casci. The three musicians have already performed together in chamber concerts at major music festivals in Milan, Bologna, and Florence. The ensemble's mission is to revive and promote lesser-known repertoire for wind instruments. With this aim in mind, the three members created these arrangements for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon of the instrumental divertimenti composed around 1783 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Structured in five movements, the pieces are characterized by an optimistic, light, and graceful musical discourse, and were most likely dedicated to the Austrian clarinetist Anton Stadler, a leading figure of the late 19th century.
