I present to you this disc recorded in August 2024 in Liechtenstein and released last month by the young Ukrainianpianist Roman Fediurko,a 22-year-old musicianwith a rapidly rising career and numerous important awards. He has recorded three CDs so far, demonstrating the diversity of his repertoire and his affinity for Romantic music.

The artist's most recent album includes works by Theodor Kullak, a prominent figure in 19th-century European culture, a virtuoso pianist, composer, and respected teacher. He guided generations of talented pianists during the Romantic era, among his students being Moritz Moszkowski, Hans Bischoff, and Nikolai Rubinstein. In 1844, he founded the Tonkünstler Verein in Berlin, and later he was appointed pianist of the Imperial Court. In 1855, he established the Neue Akademie der Tonkunst, an institution dedicated to training young pianists, which became the most prestigious private music school in Germany. Within these institutions, Theodor Kullak was able to promote his works, most of which were written for piano. The composer produced approximately 130 opus numbers, a set of songs, two chamber works, a significant number of solo piano pieces, and a piano concerto, remarkable for their dramatic character, virtuosity, and profound lyricism.

Several of Theodor Kullak's piano works, Ballade, Scherzo in G minor, Impromptu Op. 97, Sonata in F-sharp minor, and Symphonie de piano Op. 27 are included on the recent album by pianist Roman Fediurko, released by the Naxos label.

Pianist Roman Fediurko, born in 2004 in Kyiv, studied with Halyna Kotsyuba in his hometown, then at the Kunstuniversität in Graz under the guidance of Ukrainian pianist Milana Chernyavska. He later received a scholarship to continue his studies at the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein, where he also recorded his new album featuring works by Theodor Kullak. Roman Fediurko has won first prizes in major competitions, including the Bösendorfer and Yamaha international competitions, the Robert Schumann Competition in Düsseldorf, and second prize at the 2021 Carl Filtsch Competition in Sibiu. Two years later, he won the Gold Medal at the Vladimir Horowitz Competition in Geneva, a success that opened the path to an international career. The pianist has since performed on renowned stages in Vienna, Hamburg, Stockholm, Paris, and Geneva, earning praise from audiences and critics alike for his technical mastery, musicality, and dynamic interpretations, qualities that can also be admired on this album dedicated to the works of Theodor Kullak.
