Amadeus Trio. Franz Schubert – Piano Trio in B-flat Major , No. 1, D 898. CD Review - March 19th
Chamber works by Beethoven, Schubert and Kreisler are included on the album launched on February 13th by Amadeus Trio from Vienna, at the record label Supreme Classics. This ensemble, founded in 2020, is composed of internationally acclaimed musicians who have collaborated with London Royal Philharmonic, with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and have performed on prestigious stages in Europe and Asia. The three instrumentalists - violinist Wolfgang David, cellist Wolfgang Panhofer and pianist Bernhard Parz - are united by their passion for chamber music and focus on the Viennese and German tradition of the 18th and 19th centuries, without avoiding the creations of contemporary composers.
"The harmonious relationship between the Amadeus Trio is based on the joy of making music, the individuality and cohesion of the ensemble, and this album is a starting point for the exploration of the entire classic repertoire", notes the musical critic Walter Weidringer in the presentation text of this CD recorded in June 2025 in Vienna, an album that reunites works of special elegance, distinguished through lyricism and poetic spirit: the Trio in B-flat Major, Op. 11 by Ludwing van Beethoven and the Trio D 898 by Franz Schubert, followed by two miniature pieces by Fritz Kreisler - The Viennese March and Syncopation.
We have selected from this disk the Trio in B-flat Major conceived in 1827 by Schubert and finished in the last two years of his life, 1828. One of the emblematic scores of the chamber repertoire and of the classical piano trio genre, this large-scale work represents a landmark in the stylistic transition from classicism to the Romantic era. The piece has four parts - Allegro moderato as a sonnet, then a slower Andante movement un poco mosso followed by a Scherzo with intense contrapuntal chains and finally a vivacious Rondo Allegro. The Amadeus Trio from Vienna grants this score an expressive interpretation, diversely nuanced, full of colour and dynamism.
