Amalie's Cosmos is an exceptional harpist Anne-Sophie Bertrand, who enchants audiences with interpretations marked by sensitivity, charm, and virtuosity. Her new album is titled Amalie's Cosmos and it offers an evocative journey into the musical salons of 19th-century Europe and refers to a legendary character who stood out for the influence she hadon families of musicians: Amalie Beer. Born into a wealthy family, Amalie Beer lived in Berlin between 1767 and 1854 and was renowned for her intellectual refinement, philanthropic endeavors, and the influential musical gatherings she hosted in her salons. It was in this context that some of the scores that Anne-Sophie Bertrand chose for her new album - recorded in September 2025 at the Festeburgkirche in Frankfurt - were created.
Harpist Anne-Sophie Bertrand is a professor at the Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She has performed with many of Europe's leading orchestras and has given masterclasses in prominent musical centers such as Freiburg, Brussels, and London. In addition, she has served on the juries of prestigious competitions, including the International Harp Competition in Bloomington and the French Harp Competition. A passionate advocate of chamber music and contemporary repertoire, Anne-Sophie Bertrand has collaborated with distinguished conductors and composers such as Pierre Boulez, Mauricio Kagel, and Heinz Holliger. Her discography includes several critically acclaimed recordings, the latest being Amalie's Cosmos (released on March 13th), which brings together works from the early 19th century. Anne-Sophie Bertrand's refined and expressive interpretation highlights the imaginative character and rich tonal colors of these compositions.
The album also features a contemporary work by Nimrod Borenstein, a 57-year-old Israeli composer and conductor who studied in Paris and London and is currently based in the United Kingdom. A prolific creator of vocal, orchestral, and chamber works performed across Europe, Asia, and the United States of America. From his creation, harpist Anne-Sophie Bertrand chose Capriccio, Op. 107, a piece recorded in world premiere on the occasion of this album's release. The musician notes in the album booklet, "Nimrod Borenstein's music is characterized by complexity, craftsmanship, and lyricism, and this Capriccio pays homage to the virtuosity and musicality of Niccolò Paganini."
