Cellist Daniel Muller-Schott - Echoes from my childhood album - Music box, June 1st 2026

A well-known work by Alessandro Marcello, featuired in a concerto by Johann Sebastian Bach, the Adagio from the Concerto in D minor for Oboe and Orchestra, arranged for cello and continuo opens this album, which was broadcast by Radio România Muzical on June 1st. The album bears an evocative title: Echoes from My Childhood. It is scheduled for international release on June 5th and features German cellist Daniel Muller Schott, accompanied by Estonian harpsichordist Irina Zaharova and Brazilian cellist Anderson Fiorelli.

Echoes of Daniel Muller Schott's Childhood - here is what Daniel Muller Schott, a cellist with a distinguished international career, writes in the booklet for this CD:

"What creates memories in our early childhood? The first moment when our mother whispers something to us? The memory of something that moved us? In my life, it is the sound of Baroque music, which my mother used to practise on the harpsichord, that evokes the most memories. The power of music itself can transport us back to this early stage of life. The sonatas on this album are a sonic testament, performed on the same type of harpsichord my mother played during my childhood. These sounds mean a great deal to me. So does this music, which celebrates life-moments of gratitude, innocent joy, and tears born of pure intuition. A moment to return home, to that peaceful space of childhood, in contrast with our world, which is often so noisy".

Daniel Muller Schott will turn 50 on November 2nd. He was one of the protégés of the celebrated violinist Anne Sophie Mutter, who helped him gain the opportunity to work alongside Mstislav Rostropovici. His career took off I 1992, when, at the age of 16, he won first prize in his age category at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Today, Daniel Müller-Schott is one of the most prominent cellists on the international concert scene. He performs recitals and concerts in major European, American, and Asian cultural centres, and his recordings for leading record labels have received awards and acclaim from international critics. He also directs the Spring Festival in Vevey. Furthermore, he plays a cello built in Venice in 1727 by Matteo Goffriller.

An album that pays tribute to childhood: the childhood of a musician whose earliest memories are connected to the harpsichord his mother played. On this recording, we can admire the refinement of the repertoire selection, the performers' command of the style, and the incisiveness of the musical expression. The album features works by Marcello, Bach, Boccherini, and Geminiani.

And I cannot help thinking how fortunate those people are whose earliest childhood memories are connected with the miracle of music, particularly Baroque music.
