Johann Sebastian Bach - Suite No. 2, BWV 1067, in B minor; Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, BWV 1050, in D major.
Premiere album, released on May 8th
In 2024, the famous Baroque ensemble Les Arts Florissants, conducted by Paul Agnew, launched an extensive recording project, that explores the work of Johann Sebastian through the time periods and cities in which this prolific pre-Classical composer was active.
Last month, the third volume of this extensive collection, called "Bach - A life in Music", came out. The new disc, recorded at the Philharmonie Hall in Paris, is dedicated to the period Johann Sebastian Bach spent in Köthen, between 1717 and 1723, one of the most prolific times of both his life and career.
The album features orchestral scores - Suite No. 2 in B Minor and Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, performed in an exemplary manner by the ensemble Les Arts Florissants, as well as preludes recorded by harpsichordist Benjamin Alard and the Cantata BWV 173a "Durchlauchster Leopold".
Les Arts Florissants is one of the most famous Baroque vocal-instrumental ensembles in the world and it was founded in 1979, in France, by conductor William Chrstie. Since 2013, the ensemble has been conducted by Scottish artist Paul Agnew, who serves as associate musical director - a role in which he has overseen the recording of the latest albums în the "Bach: A life in Music" series.
