Jazzy Carols and Seasonal Albums - Jazz Planet, on 19th and 20th December, 2015

Monday, 14 December 2015 , ora 13.50

The following two editions of Jazz Planet will give notice of the Christmas Holiday in a unique way. On Saturday, 19th December, 18.00, one can listen to a jazzy carol performance of several native musicians. Sunday, at the same hour, we have prepared two seasonal albums created by the two great piano players Vince Guaraldi and Dave Brubeck.

On Saturday, the Romanian version of the show will have as guest the beloved Maria Răducanu, who in 2002 released the album Carols, alongside Sorin Romanescu (guitar) and Vlaicu Golcea (double bass). One of the first types of manifestations in our country's jazz, the Carols CD gathers edited folklore works, compositions by Tiberiu Brediceanu, Nicolae Lungu or Dumitrescu Georgescu-Kiriac and several original works of the trio.

Another highly appreciated voice, Luiza Zan, has also created a seasonal CD, Carols and Christmas Stories, in duet with the aforementioned Sorin Romanescu. The two artists have succeeded in creating a lovely atmosphere on this album, which appeared at the end of 2010.

Elena Mîndru, the recipient of the 2012 Montreux Jazz Festival, lives and performs in Finland, but in her music one can find strong echoes of the Romanian space.

The first album released by the young singer is Romanian Christmas Stories, which appeared in the winter of 2012. On Saturday, the Jazz Planet has been presented a good moment to present this album to the audience.

The saxophonist Nicolas Simion will complete the diversity of the show's musical presentation with two Transylvanian carols. The songs have been taken from two albums: Paris-Transylvania Express (2005) and Transylvanian Jazz (2009).

The crystalline sound of the piano will be the one to start the Sunday show. Vince Guaraldi was one of the jazz musicians who have succeeded in finding the common link between creativity and approachability. Many of his albums were dedicated to a common audience, but they have also pleased the demands of the critics. Guaraldi became famous as an author of songs used in the Peanuts animation movies, inspired by the eponymous cartoons. The LP A Charlie Brown Christmas was named so after the main character from Peanuts and appeared in 1965, to present a special Christmas episode. The success of the album reached unexpected peaks. A Charlie Brown Christmas remains one of the best sold Christmas CDs in the entire American musical industry.

In 1996, Dave Brubeck created a solo piano CD, named A Dave Brubeck Christmas. This CD gathers a part of the well-known themes of Christmas, themes which gain special characteristics under the guidance of one of the best piano players in the history of jazz.

We await your presence at Radio Romania Music to feel the spirit of Christmas from the special perspective of the jazz music.

Jazz Planet, Saturday and Sunday- 19th and 20th December, 18.00.
