Dorothea Roschmann and Mitsuko Uchida recital with works by Schumann and Berg at Wigmore Hall - Arpeggio, 1st of February

Friday, 29 January 2016 , ora 9.06

Two great artists gathered their forces in order to realise a wonderful Schumann-Berg recital that was held on February and on May last year at Wigmore Hall from London and whose recordings were selected for the album launched on October 2015. Those two are the soprano Dorothea Roschmann and the pianist Mitsuko Uchida. The latter declares that she adores the role of the recital partner, a role where unfortunately we do not see her or hear her very often. I say unfortunately due to the fact that in this recital, Uchida is a refinement model of artistic detained presence, almost as great as a mezzo-forte and despite all of these things very sensitive, sentimental and ready to add the perfect colour. It is possible for some people to wish a more historical accompaniment, but I strongly believe that in this context and with this voice beside it, the piano sounds wonderful.

Because we mentioned the voice, the soprano Dorothea Roschmann, this Elisabeth Schwarzkopf of our times, performs with intelligence and elegance. Her voice is wavering; she has the gift to translate the suggestive subtleties of sound image of the lyrics in German language and of course to the native speaker. Once again her skills, the soft voice, the pure tone and at the same time valuable, and also with stage presence, are highlighted. These are the arguments for which Roschmann is one of the favourites of the Metropolitan Opera, but also the winner of the Grammy Prize.

It is obvious that these two artists are motivating each other by discovering the consonances of the communication that make from this recital an exceptional audition for the lied lovers.

The recital and also the album is composed from three moments dedicated to love and life, two of them being signed by Robert Schumann, `A woman`s life and Love` cycle op 42 and the lieds cycle ` Liederkreis` op 39 - a wonderful declaration of love dedicated to Clarei Schumann, between which there were added the `Seven Early Songs` by Alban Berg.

These are the reasons why I am inviting you to vote this album for the `Vote the disc of classical music of the year 2016` campaign, and to listen to `CD-Review` rubric of the `Apreggio` emission, starting on Monday, 1st of February, at the Radio Romania Music.
