Interview with Irina Iacob, AdMusicam programme coordinator

Thursday, 21 March 2024 , ora 13.39

On Wednesday, Irina Iacob will give a new recital in the AdMusicam concert series, entitled "à la française". I understand the theme is French music, is that right?

Indeed, we will have an exclusively French repertoire, because we want to celebrate the International Day of the Francophonie and 31 years since Romania became a full member of the International Organisation of the Francophonie.

What programme do you propose for this recital?

In the programme we will have a solo piano piece by Maurice Ravel - part IV of Miroirs, Alborada del gracioso, followed by another Ravel piece - Pavane pour une infante defunct, arranged for flute and piano. Then another duet, this time Francis Poulenc's Sonata for clarinet and piano. The next piece is a modern composition by Bernard Andrès - Absidioles, for solo harp. We return to the flute-piano duo with Philippe Gaubert's Madrigal, and we conclude with Camille Saint-Saëns' String Quartet No. 1.

Who are the protagonists of the recital?

The protagonists of this recital are eight young musicians who have participated in various AdMusicam editions - 2018, 2019 or just last year. We have the flutist Ana Sireteanu, the violinists Larisa Nicolae and Răzvan Păun, the violist Teodora Boloca and the cellist Ștefan Ciceu, the clarinetist Marius Onică, the harpist Ioana Catinca Mureșan and Fabiani Prcsina on piano.

Let's talk a bit about how the AdMusicam Programme has evolved over the six editions.

Since 2016, when the first edition took place, our summer training programme for young musicians has started with a smaller number of participants. In the first edition we piloted this new training concept where we focused, unlike other masterclasses, not only on their musical training, but also on preparing them for their artistic life and to be able to manage their own career (as it happens for many of them) and also to encourage them to develop their own projects in addition to their performing work.

The number of participants has grown year by year. We have added new seminars to the ones we have had since the beginning, and just last year we managed to have, for the first time, a final concert with a full orchestral programme.

Another novelty last year was the partnership we had with the Republican Music High School in Chișinău- facilitated, of course, by the "Mihai Eminescu" Cultural Institute in Chișinău. Thus, wealso had participants from the Republic of Moldova and we hope to welcome young musicians fromacross the Prut again this year.

What can you tell us about this year's AdMusicam Project?

Through the new workshops we have prepared for the personal development of musicians, we have managed to help some of them to develop their own projects - chamber music seasons, independent projects, mini-festivals related to the field. Some of them even returned as teachers to the summer training internship a few years after graduating. And also, another direction in which we have developed this program has been the resumption of the AdMusicam concert series after the pandemic, in which we can implement what is studied in the summer and also continue to prepare musiciansfor their careersin the field.

In this summer's training course, which will take place at the "Brâncovenești Palaces" Cultural Centre in Mogoșoaia (as every year, they are our traditional partners) we will have, as last year, two concerts in the Sala Scoarțelor (Hall of Barks) at the museum and also our traditional final concert.

For this year's edition of our training programme at the "Palatele Brâncovenești" Cultural Centre in Mogoșoaia we have a novelty. In addition to this year's instrumentalist participants, we will also open registration for young students and graduates of conducting classes up to 25 years old.
