October 26 - The Opening of the New Season On October 26, the Bucharest Metropolitan Library hosted the opening of the Romanian Union of Interprets, Coreographers and Musical Critics Chamber Music Season. The project, initiated by soprano Mirela Zafiri is based on the idea of cultural memory, bringing back into the spotlight already well-known artists, but also promoting new talents in the field of music and other arts.

The first part of the meeting was dedicated to the presentation of the new season's project scheduled for the first Monday of every month, at 17.00, in the Metropolitan Library 'Mircea Eliade' Hall. Among others, soprano Mirela Zafiri, Vasile Donose - the President of the Union, Miltiade Nenoiu - Vicepresident, Costin Tuchila, Gheorghe Palcu and Doru Popovici gave speeches in front of the audience. The season, which started on October 26, 2009 and will be closed on June 28, 2010, comprises recitals, composer portraits, exhibitions and music listening meetings.

In the second part of the evening, two Romanian music CDs were launched, performed by Mirela Zafiri and pianist Ana Maria Ciornei. The first recording is a soprano version for George Enescu's Seven Songs with Clement Marot's lyrics. A particular event is the first-time CD-recording of some lieder by Mihail Jora: Four Songs op.16, lyrics by Tudor Arghezi (from 1936), and two Five Songs rounds with Mariana Dumitrescu's lyrics, op. 31 and 40 (composed in 1950 and 1959, respectively).

The next meeting, featuring the first recital of the season, entitled The Afternoon of a Performer will take place on November 30, 2009, starting with the portrait of a composer, Dumitru Capoianu - 80 years, and an exhibition of his documents.
