'Tradition and Virtuosity' Possible With 'Anton Pann' Band

On 10th October, 2012, at 18.30 PM, in the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Studio Mihail Jora, The Association for Culture and Tradition Anton Pann along with Radio Romania Music, as co-producer, organizes the concert "Tradition and Virtuosity", performed by the vocal-instrumental oldies band "Anton Pann" and its guests, all of them being graduates in traditional oriental musical instruments.

The concert is part of the "Tradition and Virtuosity- Traditional Instruments MasterClass", funded by the National Cultural Fund Administration and it promotes instruments that had been used in Romania by the end of the 19th century and which have remained in use in Turkey, Greece and the entire East.

This MasterClass is the first of its kind in Romania and the first edition is designated to pros, connoisseurs, interns or searchers of the oriental sound. The courses are held by famous professors and performers from Greece and Turkey, among whom Alkis Zopoglou on Kanun (Greece), Ahmed Șahin on Ney (Turkey), Kyriakos on violin (Greece), Mehmet Bitmez on Oud (Turkey), Mehmed Fatih Zulfikar on percussion (Turkey). Individual classes take place during one week and they are based on the Ottoman classical music repertoire, along with the sacred and profane set; the Greek music from the same period is included also.

The recital on 10th October is designed to crown the courses held on 30th - 6th October and it presents interpretative versions of the approached repertoire as well as inspiring resources and sound performance techniques to the Romanian musicians. The repertoire includes works from the collections of Dimitrie Cantemir, Ali Ufki, Anton Pann, Eșrefzâde Rumî and others.
