The Arcadia Quartet is setting up its first Chamber Music Workshop for young musicians

Tuesday, 18 May 2021 , ora 15.19

The Arcadia Quartet, well known in the international music world already, will hold its first chamber music workshop in June in Cluj-Napoca. Holding an impressive record, includingworks that were published at one of the most important record labels, members of the Arcadia Quartet announce the beginning of a new project, which aims to highlight through its themes the next generations of musicians.

The chamber music workshop is a project organized by the Arcadia Quartet through the Arcadia Quartet Association and is dedicated to the existing chamber formations (with strings, strings and piano or strings and wind instruments). These are composed of young musicians in Romania between 15-30 years of age. The workshop will take place on the 27th of June and the 3rd of July 2021 and will be hosted by the "Gheorghe Dima" National Musical Academy in Cluj-Napoca.

RasvanDumitru, member of the Arcadia Quartet and president of the Arcadia Quartet Association:

"We were mulling over the idea of organizing a festival for several years and since the beginning we wished for a festival that, aside from the artistic aspect would include guidance for the younger generation of musicians. Given the pandemic context, we thought that this year we should focus on education and so the idea of organizing a chamber music workshop took form. It is an especially important project for us primarily because in Romania, there are some very gifted young musicians that are yearning for knowledge, to broaden their musical horizons and that are seeking guidance in this field, a field with a modest tradition in our country. We wish to offer them this chance here, in Romania."

As such, we want to believe that this first step will be the start of something big. We want to make this for the community in Cluj-Napoca because ultimately, we are also a product of the musical school in Cluj-Napoca, though at the same time, we are addressing all lovers of music and beauty.

The workshop shall open with a chamber concert performed by the Arcadia Quartet. Over the course of the masterclass, which shall last 5 days, the participants can benefit from multiple meetings with each member of the quartet. The project shall end with the recital of the participating formations. Both concerts are open to the general public. All activities are to be carried out while respecting the rules and sanitation protection measures currently in effect due to the pandemic context.

Details regarding the masterclass and application can be found on the page: arcadiaquartet.com/ro/proiect/atelier-de-muzica-de-camera.

Deadline for applying is the 10th of June 2021.

The Arcadia Quartet Associationwas founded in 2013 by members of the Arcadia Quartet - Ana Torok, Rasvan Dumitru, Traian Boală and Zsolt Torok, with the goal to create an optimal environment for the promotion of chamber music and especially to aid the activities of the Quartet. The Arcadia Quartet Association wishes to promote classical music as much as possible, to discover, rediscover and share the vast repertoire of chamber music written for the string quartet (and other chamber formations), to support and guide young developing musicians, to underline the importance of musical education and to spread cultural and artistic values near and far.

The project is organized by the Arcadia Quartet Association, in partnership with the National Music Academy "Gheorghe Dima" and the "TinerimeaRomana", National Art Centre, main sponsor - Weberbau and media partners: Radio Romania Musical, Radio Cluj, EBS Radio.
