MERIDIAN International Festival 2021: PLANETARIUM

Thursday, 21 October 2021 , ora 15.54

MERIDIAN-PLANETARIUM will take place in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, but in a format that is adapted to the current state of the pandemic. All the events will be transmited online, the organizers keeping the possibility to have an audience in the hall for 6 concerts in Bucharest, if sanitary regulations will allow this.

So, the music's infinite cosmos, will be one click away from us, between the 7th and 14th of November.

Each concert of the festival will be organized after the aesthetic of an imaginary planet: TERRA INCOGNITA, PRO-PHILIA, CALEA ARHEE, POLARIS, INTERSONAR, OMBRA, METAMORPHIA or SHOOTING STAR. The guests are well-known artists in the contemporary Romanian and international music scene. From the ensembles Profil, Atem, Sono Mania, Archaeus or Couleurs, to lead singers such as accordionist Ghenadie Rotari, vocal performer Irinel Anghel, cellist Ana Topalovic, dancer Rosalie Wanka, pianists Adriana Toacsen and Lena Conta, soprano Andreea Novac, harpist Maria Bîulea, Nastasa and many others.

The MERIDIAN international festival also aims to pay tribute to crucial musicians who contributed to the affirmation of the avant-garde Romanian music scene - such as the late archetypal composer Octavian Nemescu. The preview of the festival, "Scara Lăuntrică", is dedicated to him (Sunday 7.11, 12:00, at UNMB - event organizedby UCIMR).

The 3D animation film PLANETARIUM (Astrosonor Observatory) created by Alexandru Claudiu Maxim, a journey among 5 unknown planets (Nepterra, Jupiturn, Uruto, Lunamer, Venarte), each with own sound environment provided by 5 contemporarycomposers, will be screened in the opening of the festival. And online, an imaginary radio station (X-radio) and a TV station (X-tv) will broadcast daily, at the same time, electronic music or international audio-video creations.

The festival will also include 2 music symposia, a book launch (on the ZOOM platform) and 2 online Round-Tables.

In the end, an incandescent shooting star and an ensemble of improvisers each in another corner of the world will put questions, closing and opening the appetite for explorations, reflections, desires, aspirations, conclusions.

The full PLANETARIUM program, organizers, partners and access links can be found on the snr-simc.org website and on the MeridianFestival Facebook page.
