Propatria International Festival - Young Romanian Talents returns with the 11th edition in Bologna and Rome

From November 29th to December 16th 2021, the 11th edition of the International Festival Propatria - Young Romanian Talents will take place in Bologna and Rome, an edition that aims to bring Romanian culture to the fore in other Italian cities.Thus, the inauguration of the 11th edition of the International Festival Propatria - Young Romanian Talents, a festival organized by the Romanian-Italian Cultural Association Propatria in Rome, in partnership with the Consulate General of Romania in Bologna, the Romanian Cultural Institute, Accademia di Romania in Rome, EUNIC Rome, Conservatory of Music "Santa Cecilia" in Rome and under the patronage of the Romanian Embassy in Italy, the Greek Embassy in Italy and the George Enescu International Festival, will take place at the Basilica of Saint Petronius in Bologna with an extraordinary concert performed by the National Chamber Choir "Madrigal - Marin Constantin" on the occasion of Romania's National Day 2021.

The International Propatria Festival - Young Romanian Talents was initiated in 2011 with the aim to identify, enhance and support excellence among Romanians living in Italy and abroad in general. Throughout the first ten editions, the focus has been on the idea of spreading Romanian culture in Italy, with emphasis on its contribution to strengthening relations between the Romanian and Italian communities, the organizers considering it essential to preserve the national identity or to form it in the consciousness of young people, future personalities of culture, sport, science.Throughout its 11-year history, the festival has been multidisciplinary in nature, aiming to highlight the excellence of young Romanians living abroad, the International Propatria Festival - Young Romanian Talents becoming truly a project aimed at promoting the image of Romania and Romanian elites abroad. Thanks to the important names that have taken the stage or collaborated over the years, the festival has become one of the most important artistic events in Italy.

Aiming to open the borders of cultural diversity through art, to build intercultural bridges of communication, the International Festival Propatria - Young Romanian Talents has hosted over 60 events, classical music concerts, exhibitions, film screenings and plays in its 11 years of existence and has awarded over 300 young people from all over the world as well as great cultural or sports personalities in the Gala of Excellence Awards. The artistic director of the festival during 2014-2017 was pianist Cătălina Diaconu (Romania/Italy), and during 2018-2021 pianist Mara Dobrescu (Romania/France), the programme accompanying the audience on a fantastic journey from music to cinema, from theatre to social events, all culminating in the Propatria Excellence Awards Gala.The musical events have been eagerly awaited in all editions of the Propatria festival, for their quality and diversity, and this project has become over time a tool to enhance Romanian excellence abroad, to strengthen the Romanian diaspora, to facilitate direct contact between prestigious young Romanians from all over the world. Since 2013, when the festival became an international event, it established artists or young talents from France, Austria, USA, Belgium, Spain, Holland, Germany, Italy, Republic of Moldova, USA, England, Romania have performed on its stage, many of them being awarded PROPATRIA Trophies, Excellence Prizes or scholarships. The participation of young people from several countries representative of the Romanian diaspora has led to a better knowledge of Romania's culture in their countries of residence, a growing appreciation of the cultural values of the Romanian people and a reconsideration and appreciation of the true value of Romanians abroad and their country of origin. This year's edition of the festival will include the following events:


29th of November 2021, 19:00, Basilica of Saint Petronius in Bologna - Piazza Maggiore

Inaugural concert performed by the National Chamber Choir "Madrigal - Marin Constantin" on the occasion of the National Day of Romania 2021.

In the program pieces by Hans Leo Hassler, Pelle Olofson, Ola Gjeilo, Arvo Pärt, Anton Bruckner, Florian Costea, Nicolae Lungu (Soloist: Teodora Jaworski), Anton Pann (arr. Dan Mihai Goia), Francisc Hubic (Soloist: Denis Maxim), Filotei Monahul (Soloist: Silviu Năstase), Kodály Zoltan, Mircea Valeriu Diaconescu, Vytautas Mičkinis, Knut Nystedt and Gordon Young.

Event organized in partnership with the General Consulate of Romania in Bologna, the National Chamber Choir "Madrigal - Marin Constantin" and Accademia di Romania in Rome.

Recital by Greek guitarist THANOS MITSALAS (Greece)

On the programme pieces by J. Rodrigo (1901-1999), M. Llobet (1878-1938), A. Barrios Mangore (1885-1944), Gerard Drozd, S. Assad (1952-) and V. Ivanovic (1959-).

Event organised in partnership with the Greek Embassy in Italy.


7th of December 2021, 19:00, Sala Baldini in Rome - Piazza di Campitelli 9

"The Waves of the Danube"

Recital by pianist DANA CIOCÂRLIE (Romania/France)

In the programme pieces by: Iosif Ivanovici, W. A. Mozart, F. Schubert, R. Schumann; G. Ligetti, B. Bartok, Paul Constantinescu, George Enescu and Violeta Dinescu.

Event organized in partnership with Accademia di Romania in Rome, with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute.


11th December 2021, 19:00, Sala Accademica of the "Santa Cecilia" Conservatory in Rome - Via dei Greci 18

Concert performed by violinist Valentin Șerban (winner of the George Enescu International Competition 2020/2021) and pianist Dragoș Dumitru, within the 2021/2022 season of the music project EUROPA IN MUSICA. On the programme are pieces by César Franck, Manuel De Falla, Igor Stravinsky and Franz Waxman.

The event is organised in partnership with the Accademia di Romania in Rome, the "Santa Cecilia" Conservatory of Music in Rome and the EUNIC Rome cluster.


16th December 2021, 19:00, Accademia di Romania in Rome - Piazza José de San Martin 1

Screening of the documentary film Re-education in Pitesti- Drama of a generation by Lucia Hosu Longin, a documentary dedicated to the commemoration of the victims of the Romanian Revolution of 1989. Event organized in partnership with Accademia di Romania in Rome, Memoria Cultural Foundation - Branch.
