'Romeo and Juliet' in a Famous Performance - March 9th, 2014

Friday, 28 February 2014 , ora 10.18

It is a recording that was received with enthusiasm by the Romanian and international audience, as well as the critics, on its release in 1998.

Romeo and Juliet – Charles Gounod’s opera – interpreted by a cast where the lead roles go to Roberto Alagna and Angela Gheroghiu. As one of the most well known sopranos of the time the soloist is appreciated for her veristic and verdian repertoire, but also for operas such as Romeo and Juliet that falls into Angela Gheorghiu’s successful recordings category during her career.

On the ‘Opera in Famous Performances’ programme, presented by Iolanda Drâmbei, we offer this recording from 1998, on Sunday, March 9th, 2014, at 19:30 – Romeo and Juliet in a performance created together with the Toulouse ‘Capitole’ Orchestra and Theatre Choir, conducted by the famous conductor Michel Plasson. In the cast also participated José van Dam, Simon Keenlyside and Marie Ange Todorovitch.

Until then, however – here is a piece from the aforementioned opera – interpreted by Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna.
