The Cologne German Radio Symphony Orchestra on Five-Star Concerts- 1st August, 2014

The programme offered by Radio Romania Music within the Five-Star Concerts show is the opening concert of the 2013-2014 season of the Cologne German Radio Symphony Orchestra, performed by the Cologne Philharmonie last year on 13th September.

Jukka-Pekka Saraste - the chief conductor of the ensemble since 2010 - was at the conductor's stand. The Finnish conductor, an artist of exceptional versatility is very close to the late romantic music, but he equally promotes contemporary music, working closely with composers, such as, Henri Dutilleux, Magnus Lindberg and Kaija Saariaho.

The video below presents Jukka Pekka Saraste conducting Concerto No. 1 for piano and orchestra by Brahms with Radu Lupu as soloist of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, an ensemble that you will be able to listen to on 20th September, 2014, during the opening concert of the RADIRO Festival organized by Radio Romania.

The programme of the concert that opened the 2013-2014 season of the Cologne German Radio Symphony Orchestra, presented Symphony No. 3 in C minor, Op. 44 by Sergey Prokofiev and Concerto in D major Op.35 for violin and orchestra by Tchaikovsky.

The soloist of Tchaikovsky's concert was the violinist Nikolai Znaider. A Danish of Hebrew origin, winner of the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels in 1997, Nikolai Znaider plays a Guarneri del Gesu violin made in 1741, that belonged to the legendary violinist Fritz Kreisler and.
