BBC Proms Festival Live on Radio Romania Music - 1st September, 2014

Wednesday, 27 August 2014 , ora 9.17

On Monday, 1st September, you are invited, during  the European Musig Stage  programme,  to the Royal Albert Hall in London where, as part of the BBC Proms Festival, you will take part in the concert performed by the the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, conducted by Charles Dutoit.

The theme of the concert: Roman Holiday. Thus, the programme features the Roman Carnival Overture, Op. 9, by Hector Berlioz, as well as Ottorino Respighi’s Roman trilogy of symphonic poems:  Roman Festivals, Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome. Seldom performed entirely, Respighi’s triptych paints a colourful picture of life in ‘the eternal city’. He takes us to the catacombs, in the streets where children play and then, shows us how the sun rises and sets over the city of the seven hills.

Pianist Danny Driver joins the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra as a soloist in William Walton’s Sinfonia Concertante for Piano and Orchestra, an early work of the British composer. We know that the English pianist, besides the attention he gives the usual, classical repertoire,  also shows a special interest in atypical or neglected works.

On Monday, 1st September 2014, starting at 21:30, during the European Music Stage programme, your ‘Roman Holiday’ guide will be Ruxandra Arzoiu.

Charles Dutoit is the art director and first conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London; he is a musician who has visited Romania several times, as a guest at the Enescu Festival, In order to know him better, you can watch the video posted below.
