Angela Gheorghiu... on 'Opera and its Stars', 17th February, 2015

Tuesday, 17 February 2015 , ora 9.21

Loved by the public and eulogized by the press, adored or disputed, worshiped or criticized. She is a star in the true sense of the word, a diva for whom the BBC cleared out its schedules to broadcast her performance as Violetta Valéry in the opera La Traviata at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. Even after 23 years since she made her debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Angela Gheorghiu is constantly being the centre of the attention of music reviewers, who compete in getting the most recent information about her latest recordings, who hurry to comment on every gesture or declaration she makes, and on her every public appearance.

She has performed on the stage of the three temples of lyrical music: the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. Angela Gheorghiu's name is linking to an already impressing discography - 78 albums, which contain recitals and complete operas.

The title of the album from which I will come up with a selection during the Opera and its Stars section within the Arpeggioprogramme and which will be broadcast on 17th February, starting at 11:00, is entitled My Puccini and it was released in November, 2008.
