The young pianist Yuja Wang represents, for those people who go to a concert for the show itself and not just for the music, a brilliant appearance, with provocative clothing (made by famous designers and thoroughly analyzed by people) and with a technique that amazes not only the outsiders but also the connoisseurs. Not incidentally, her interpretation of Rimsky Korsakov`s The Flight of the Bumblebee at the 2008 Verbier Festival summed up four millions viewers: a large spectacular demonstration of an arrangement signed by the pianist Gyorgy Cziffra, that highlights the force and the physical skills of this artist who made her first appearance as one of Asia's wonder children.

Born in Beijing, Yuja Wang was helped by her parents, at the age of fourteen, to get to Canada, mainly to study the English language and later one to get to Philadelphia, to the Curtis Institute. Declared ʹThe young Artist of 2011ʹ at the award ceremony of Echo Klassik, Yuja Wang got the support of some famous organizations during her career, taking also advantage of the Gilmore Young Artist Award, the Avery Fischer scholarship, etc. As the grumblers would say, despite the fact that during her evolutional journey she did not win any important competitions , the artist from China managed to receive, during her years of training, the Third Prize in the Ettlingen International Competition for Young Pianists (Germany, 1998), the Third Prize and the Special Prize in the Sendai International Music Competition in Japan in 2001 and the First Prize in the Aspen Music Festival's concerto Competition in, Colorado, the USA in 2002.

Before listening to her, for the question ʹWhat does recommend Yuja Wang? ʹwe could offer you a simple answer: the collaboration with conductors, such as: David Zinman, Pinchas Zukerman, Lorin Maazel and Charles Dutoit, and the fact that she was the first choice of the organizers to replace pianists that important as Martha Argerich and Radu Lupu. I think that in the Recommendations section of our website, we could use the photos posted in May on the artist`s official Facebook page, where we can see her in a 'familiar' environment, with Radu Lupu, playing Brahms … with a smile on her face.

On 6th September, Yuja Wang will return to Bucharest, to this year's edition of the 'George Enescu' International Festival, in order to perform with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and with the conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, the Concerto No.2 in G Major for piano and orchestra by Béla Bartók.

However, until then, you can listen to her recordings on Arpeggio on Radio Romania Music, between 13th and 15th July, starting at 10:30. We will be waiting for you.
