Latin America presents itself with Wladimir Pesantez

Buenos dias y bienvenidos! Hello and welcome! These are the words which open the radio programme Latin America presents itself, each Sunday starting from 12 o’clock.

The music in the Latin-American countries represents the sum of various cultures, both local and ‘imported’ from other continents. As a result, in this part of the world, music has various regional particularities, assimilated by the native peoples. Although they share the same language (Spanish), the differences between the Latin-American peoples are quite easy to spot. Paradoxically, the cultural resemblance is at the same time homogeneous and heterogeneous.

The musical characteristics of Latin America are mainly based upon three cultural roots: native, European (mostly Spanish) and black.

The ‘Latin America presents itself’ programme has a wide repertoire: works by the most famous Latin American composers, interpreters, song writers, folkloric groups and classical music orchestras which are renowned worldwide; texts full of sensitivity by famous poets; sustained rhythms, starting from the carnival beat, working its way up to the famous bolero; popular instruments, starting from those which are less known in the world, like the charrango and the quena, to those which are considered to be ‘classic’: piano, violin, guitar; various themes, ranging from tragic to social.

‘Latin America presents itself’ is an interactive radio programme, where listeners have the chance to travel through time and space, reaching the most remote areas of Latin America, getting acquainted with the different musical characteristics of the region. It is a show which brings to its audience the true Latin-American music, which is totally different from all the commercial songs which have invaded Romania and Europe in the past few years.

Muchas gracias. Thank you. Hasta la semana proxima! See you next week, only here at ‘Latin America presents itself’.
