The Silken Ladder at the Radio Hall
Wednesday, 4 May 2011 , 19.00

Among the stars of Italian Romanticism, Gioachino Rossini has the legendary aura of a creator whose genius and spontaneity granted him a sudden celebrity. The dramatic simplicity and efficiency, the buoyancy and the peculiar timbre of his music create a blend that accounted for the success of the charming works which consecrated the Rossinian crescendo in musical culture. The overture of the Rossinian opera The Silken Ladder will come to life on the stage of the Radio Hall under the baton of Gheorghe Costin, featuring the exceptional performances of soloists Valentin Ghiță (oboe) and Lucian Gabriel Dănilă (violin).

On Wednesday, the 4th of May, starting from 19:00, the Radio Chamber Orchestra invites you to an appealing programme opening with the emblematic overture of Rossini and continuing with Introduction and Variations for Oboe or Flute, with the Accompaniment of Piano or Orchestrain F major by Johann Nepomuk Hummel, the Violin Concerto No. 1 in F sharp minor by Henryk Wieniawski, and concluding with Symphony No. 6 in C major by Franz Schubert.

Permanent conductor of Banatul Philharmonic of Timișoara since 2001, Gheorghe Costin has a first-hand knowledge of all the regions of Romania since he got acquainted with them one by one as a conductor. He was a conductor for the Philharmonic of Târgu-Mureș (1986-1988) and for the 'Moldova' State Philharmonic Orchestra of Iași (1988-2001). He graduated from the Bucharest National University of Music, where he studied both composition with Dan Constantinescu and conducting with Constantin Bugeanu. As a young musician he was deeply influenced by the personalities of Sergiu Celibidache and Erich Bergel.

Valentin Ghiță graduated both from the 'Gheorghe Dima' Music Academy of Cluj-Napoca (class of Professor Aurel Marc) and from National University of Music in Bucharest (class of Professor Florin Ionoaia). He has won numerous awards at several national contests and has collaborated with the Philharmonic of Pitești, the Transilvania Philharmonic, the Bucharest National Music University Orchestra, and the 'Gheorghe Dima' Music Academy Orchestra. He is currently a soloist for the National Radio Orchestra.

A soloist and the first chair second violinist in the Radio Chamber Orchestra, and also concertmaster for the Muntenia Symphony Orchestra of Dâmbovița Cultural Centre, the violinist Lucian Gabriel Dănilă has had a rich activity as a concerto soloist and as a member of various chamber music ensembles.
