On the Summer Collection: 'La muette de Portici' by Auber
Saturday, 14 July 2012
, 19.00
Daniel François Esprit Auber - composer with a considerable impact on the 19th century French opera and his work La muette de Portici (The Dumb Girl of Portici) - with which he had the greatest success, will be the subject of the second Summer Collection programme.
That is, we will talk about Auber (1782-1871), the creator massively complimented by Richard Wagner in his book Souvenirs sur Auber and his most 'surprising' opera - still in Wagner's opinion - La muette de Portici (1828), the score which served as model to the grand opera genre, even for the subsequent creations of Rossini, Halévy or Meyerbeer; after which we will listen together to one of the recordings of reference realized in the studios of the Opera Rara label, La muette de Portici with: soprano June Anderson and tenor Alfredo Kraus.
