About Music and Life with… Bass George Emil Crăsnaru

Thursday, 7 November 2024 , ora 13.06

A name that has captured the attention of Romanian music lovers from a young age and soon gained recognition from worldwide audiences. He has not appeared on our stages since the early 1980s, pursuing his career abroad and enjoying great success. I heard him again much later in Bucharest, performing vocal chamber music andexpressing a wealth of emotion within the limited framework of a lied…

Hisimposing voice, capable ofshifting from a commanding presence to dramatic intensity or comforting warmth, remains etched in my memory. But it was the genuine passion for interpretation with which George Emil Crăsnaru breathed life into every note, crafting vivid characters even in the smallest of chamber pieces, that truly set him apart. At the risk of repeating myself, I want to emphasize this quality, which I feel is essential to his interpretive style, particularly as I haven't had many opportunities to see him in our opera productions.

During his interview on Radio România Muzical, George Emil Crăsnaru spoke About Music and Life, painting a true picture of Romania's musical landscape during his formative years, highlighted with selections from the archive of sound recordings preserved in the radio's library. Among his stories are memories from childhood, which, by chance, were closely intertwined with the work of several Romanian radio ensembles.Maestro Crăsnarutakes us on a nostalgic journey through the atmosphere of that era, the memorable experiences, and the remarkable artists he met throughout his distinguished career. As his work extended beyond the stage to the teaching podium, his words offer valuable information, as well as insights that can guide others…

Singing under the direction of legends like Igor Markevitch, Herbert von Karajan, and Riccardo Muti (to name just three from the long list of great conductors from various generations he had the opportunity to work with) was yet another recognitionof his artistic talent, alongside his performance awards and the prestige of theaters like Milan's La Scala! Often labeled a "singing bass" or "serious bass," Maestro George Emil Crăsnaru explored a much wider range of roles thanks to his vocal abilities, thus showcasing his interpretive talents!

Tune in to Radio România Muzical on November 5th at 7:00 PM to hear our guest, George Emil Crăsnaru, on the About Music and Life program.
