Radio România Muzical – 28th Anniversary. Special recital performed by violinist AlexandruTomescu
On March 24th, 2025, Radio România Muzical celebrates 28 years since its first broadcast, remaining the only Romanian radio station dedicated exclusively to classical music. To mark this occasion, Radio România Muzical is organizing a special recital at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Bucharest, featuring suites by Johann Sebastian Bach, performed by the renowned violinist Alexandru Tomescu.
A symbol of excellence in Romanian musical performance, Alexandru Tomescu is the concert soloist of the Radio Romania Orchestras and the ambassador for the project "Listen to 5 Minutes of Classical Music", initiated and developed by Radio România Muzical. Since 2018, he has also hosted the bimonthly segment "Objective-Emotive" on Radio România Muzical, a key part of the station's programme. An emblem of interpretative excellence, he performs alongside a radio station that reflects excellence in classical music daily through its broadcasts, concerts, live transmissions, educational projects, and initiatives supporting young musicians.
It has become a tradition for the anniversary of Radio România Muzical to be marked by a special concert featuring Alexandru Tomescu. This year, the event will take place at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Bucharest, a venue where Johann Sebastian Bach's music takes on a unique significance. The program includes Bach's Cello Suites Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 6, transcribed for solo violin by Werner Icking. The concert is scheduled for 8:00 PM, with free public access starting at 7:30 PM. It will also be broadcast live on Radio România Muzical.
Alexandru Tomescu: "Music has been with me for as long as I can remember. Radio România Muzical brings us the most beautiful music every day while also fulfilling a crucial mission: cultivating and broadening public tastes. The international political scene is highly turbulent at the moment. That is why I firmly believe that we need an anchor now more than ever. For me, as an artist, that anchor has always been and will always be classical music. We need the beauty and balance that the music of Bach, Beethoven, and Enescu provides. Happy anniversary, Radio România Muzical!"
Cristina Comandașu, Manager of Radio România Muzical: "I believe Radio România Muzical is more than just a radio station; it is a heartbeat that resonates within the musical world and Romanian society as a whole, reflecting the authentic values we must never forget to uphold. I am grateful to Alexandru Tomescu for once again choosing to celebrate alongside Radio România Muzical, highlighting the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Between the human and the transcendent, Bach's music is a symbol of timeless values-something we need now more than ever. I also extend my thanks to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bucharest for its support in organizing this event, and I hope many of us will come together to celebrate both Radio România Muzical and Bach's music at St. Joseph's Cathedral. My gratitude also goes to our longstanding sponsors: BRD Groupe Société Générale and the law firm Vasile Deleanu."
