"Lights and Shadows" at the end of the "Heirs of Musical Romania" tour
On Monday, March 10th, 2025, clarinettist Petru Pane and pianist Daniel Dumitrașcu performed the last recital of the national tour under the aegis of the project "Heirs of Musical Romania", initiated and organized by Radio România Muzical and Rotary Club Pipera. Our colleague Ioana Țintea was also at the event hosted by the "George Enescu" Philharmonic, and she gives us more details in a report.
During March 4th-10th, 2025, clarinettist Petru Pane and pianist Daniel Dumitrașcu joined their artistic forces to offer the audience in Satu Mare, Iasi and Bucharest exceptional musical evenings, as part of the "Heirs Musical Romania" tour.
An evening with music by Schumann, Brahms, Saint-Saëns and Debussy is what the clarinettist Petru Pane and the pianist Daniel Dumitrașcu proposed during the recital presented yesterday evening on the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum. The event, the conclusion of the national tour held by the two performers, transported us for 60 minutes through "lights and shadows" in a program that included some of the emblematic works of the repertoire for clarinet and piano. From the presentation made by Cristina Comandașu, the manager of our station and initiator of the project, under the banner of which Romania's young and exceptional musicians are brought to prestigious Romanian stages, the audience learned about the concept of the tour and the artistic career of the two performers.
Fantasy Pieces op. 73 by Robert Schumann, Sonata op. 120 no. 1 by Johannes Brahms, Sonata op. 167 by Camille Saint-Saënsand Rhapsody 1 by Claude Debussy were the works proposed by the two musicians. I admired the technique and maturity of Petru Pane, the subtle way in which he conceives his musical discourse, the very wide dynamic range, but also the organic collaboration between the two interpreters, Petru Pane finding in Daniel Dumitrașcu a worthy partner.
At the audience's request, Petru Pane and Daniel Dumitrașcu offered as an encore "Csárdás" by Vittorio Monti - a page that brought smiles and enthusiasm from the audience.
At the end of the event we gathered some impressions from the participants:
Maestro Cristian Mandeal: It was splendid. Surprising and unsurprising, because I have known Petru for many years. I have followed his very beautiful evolution, in the meantime he became my conducting student and I can tell you that he is moving very well for only three semesters that he has done and he is already conducting and conducting orchestras and doing it well. He has evolved in his thinking a lot and obviously in his ability to express himself in all aspects. The big surprise for me, however, was this young pianist about whom I knew nothing. He is an absolutely remarkable presence. As a chamber pianist he strikes me as exceptionally gifted. His thinking, his lucidity, his imagination, his ability to adapt and his ability to support are quite extraordinary, so I really enjoyed this recital.
Dan Popescu - Rotary Club Pipera: Exceptional. I had the pleasure of hearing Petru Pane again. Impressive! I'm proud and I think we are all proud to have such talents and these young people, true heirs of musical Romania, examples that we can pass on.
Pianist Ștefan Doniga: Excellent. I was very happy to hear young musicians of such quality. I have a feeling that the recording of this recital could go straight onto a CD and also be in the running for some very good prizes. An extraordinary recital. Such talents, I discovered an extraordinarily profound lyricism in this very promising young musician. A joy!
We know that any "Heirs of Musical Romania" recital becomes an event in itself, and the one hosted yesterday evening by the "George Enescu" Philharmonic once again confirmed all expectations.
Here are some other impressions from those present:
- First of all, we thank you.
- I won the invitation to the Musica viva competition and for that I thank you because it was a very pleasant experience. I'm here with my mother. It was a special evening for both of us that we spent together and we were really discussing how much I appreciated Petru Pane's passion. It was the first time I had ever heard of him. Truly a very talented young man. He motivated us to do what we love in life and to insist on the beautiful things in our lives. They keep us going no matter what. I think it's important to pause a little bit and see that we have beautiful young people who, by what they do. I think represent us best.
- It was impressive because he has huge potential. As a novice, it's potential plus good looks, which counts for a lot, and a lot of ambition. Good luck to him.
- We are very proud of our colleague Petru Pane, that we have the privilege and the opportunity to be colleagues with him and to admire his career and maybe even to be an example, including for us, because from such a young age he was able to make such a great career. We wish him all the success in the world and look forward to seeing him at his next concerts.
- I enjoyed it very much. The pieces have been carefully chosen to delight us and tonight's protagonists are wonderful.
- It was very beautiful. We were impressed by the young musicians and the enthusiasm with which they played.
- Speechless. The repertoire was extraordinary. They played very well both musically and technically. All in all it was a great recital.
