The “Heirs of Musical Romania” project: a special recital-event featuring the cellist Jan Sekaci and pianist Daria Tudor
The winner of the 2024 edition of the "Heirs of Musical Romania" scholarship, will perform a special recital at the Radio Hall, on Tuesday, June 10th, at 7:00 PM. The cellist Jan Sekaci will perform alongside the renowned pianist Daria Tudor, presenting a program featuring some of the most famous works that define the cello repertoire from the second half of the 19th century and early 20th century: the Sonata by Claude Debussy, Sonata No. 2 by Johannes Brahms, 5 Stücke im Volkston by Robert Schumann, and Zigeunerweisen by Pablo de Sarasate. The twenty-four-year-old cellist Jan Sekaci is one of the most important names of the new generation of Romanian musicians. Born in Oradea, he studied in Cluj-Napoca and Bucharest. He is currently attending the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin. Jan Sekaci made his debut at the Radio Hall in February 2024 as a soloist with the Radio Chamber Orchestra, thanks to the professional opportunities offered by the 2023 edition of the "Heirs of Musical Romania" scholarship. In December 2024, he also performed with the National Radio Orchestra, as part of the award for winning the 2024 scholarship edition.
Jan Sekaci stands out for the maturity, musicality, and creativity of his performances. A very sensitive artist with remarkable talent, he has won numerous important national and international awards, the most recent being in March 2025 at the New Hope Grand Prix.

Jan Sekaci
Born in Oradea in 2001, Jan Sekaci began studying the cello at the age of 10. In 2014, he decided to continue his training at the National College of Music "Sigismund Toduță" in Cluj-Napoca. In 2015, he moved to Bucharest, where he studied at the National College of Arts "Dinu Lipatti" under the Professor Octavian Lup until 2020. He is currently a student at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin, in the class of the Professor Frans Helmerson.
Throughout the years, he has participated in numerous competitions in Romania, where his talent and hard work were recognized from an early age, winning Grand Prizes at the "Sigismund Toduță" Competition (2014, Deva), the "Alexandru Moroșanu" National Competition (2015, Bucharest), the "Paul Constantinescu" Competition, the "George Georgescu" Competition, and first prize at the national music olympiads between 2015-2019. Internationally, he has also stood out by winning multiple first prizes, including at the "Klaipeda International Cello Festival and Competition" (2017), the "ProArt International Competition" (2017, Ukraine), and the prestigious "Johannes Brahms" Competition (2021, Austria), where he also received a special prize from the conductor Yuki Miyagi, namely an invitation to preform Dvoűák's Concerto Op. 104 in Prague.
He has attended masterclasses with Marin Cazacu, Răzvan Suma, Valentin Răduțiu, David Geringas, Frans Helmerson, Jens Peter Maintz, Miklós Perényi, Romain Garioud, Raphael Pidoux, Antonio Meneses, András Schiff, and Daniel Barenboim. In 2018 and 2024, he was selected to participate as an active member of the Kronberg Academy masterclasses under Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt and Philippe Muller. He also attended Gautier Capuçon's Classe d'Excellence for three consecutive years at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris.He is an active member of the Boulez Contemporary Music Ensemble. Since 2025, he has been a scholarship holder of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben foundation. He plays a cello crafted around 1850 in Naples.
Daria Tudor
Daria Tudor, who is 28 years old, made her debut at just 9 years old, performing with the Radio Chamber Orchestra in Bucharest. She has won many national and international competitions and has performed in major recital halls, especially in Germany. In February 2015, she was accepted at the Universität der Künste Berlin in the class of Professors Pascal Devoyon and Rikako Murata. Since May 2015, Daria Tudor has worked at the Universität der Künste Berlin as a lecturer for contemporary Lied classes with the Professors Axel Bauni and Eric Schneider and as the pianist for the Professor Konstantin Heidrich's cello class. She is currently a piano accompanist at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin.
Since 2017, she has been an official accompanist at the Rutesheim Cello Academy, Germany. In June 2019, Daria was awarded the Enlight Prize for Best Young Artist at the Art of the Piano Festival in Cincinnati, USA. She has participated in festivals in Finland, Germany, and Austria: Alpenarte - Schwarzenberg (October 2018), Kissinger Sommer - Bad Kissingen (June 2017), Mozartfest - Würzburg (June 2016), and Crescendo Festival - Berlin (May 2016, 2017). In 2022, she was a semifinalist at the "George Enescu" International Competition in Bucharest.
In the "Heirs of Musical Romania" project, Daria Tudor has performed with the cellist Andrei Ioniță (June 13th, 2021), the violinist Ioana Cristina Goicea and the cellist Andrei Ioniță in chamber concerts in Brussels (November 30, 2022) and Sala Radio (December 18th, 2022), the violinist Valentin Șerban at Sala Radio (February 12th, 2023), and the violinist Marica Marica at the Romanian Athenaeum (November 15th, 2023).Alongside Ioana Cristina Goicea and Andrei Ioniță, Daria Tudor has recorded two albums released by Casa Radio Publishing House under the Radio România Muzical collection: Beethoven (2022) and George Enescu (2023). Together with the violinist Valentin Șerban, she recorded the album "Violin in love" released in 2024 under the "Heirs of Musical Romania" collection.
The "Heirs of Musical Romania" Project
… organized by Radio România Muzical and Rotary Club Pipera, the project has expanded over the years in two main directions. The first aims to bring exceptional young Romanian musicians back home, onthe major stages of Romania, giving the Romanian audience the rare opportunity to hear them live. The recitals are open to a broad audience and last for one hour, with no breaks.
Since 2018, almost 40 concerts and recitals have been held, featuring artists like the cellist Andrei Ioniță, the violinist Ioana Cristina Goicea, the cellist Valentin Răduțiu, the pianists Florian Mitrea, Adela Liculescu, Axia Marinescu, and many others. Under the same project, three albums with selections from different recitals, have also been released by Casa Radio Publishing House.
The second direction is the "Heirs of Musical Romania" scholarship. Created in 2020 by Radio România Muzical and Rotary Club Pipera, the scholarship targets young musicians, between the age of 16 and 24. The past winners of the 4000€ scholarship are the pianist Cadmiel Boțac (2020), the cellist Cornelius Zirbo (2021), the pianist Kira Frolu (2022), the pianist Nil Mladin (2023), and the cellist Jan Sekaci (2024). For the 2025 edition, the scholarship value is of 4500€. The finalists have also benefited from various professional opportunities, such as recitals, concerts, recordings, and international competitions, as recommended by the jury.
