Beethoven and Shostakovich with Hilary Hahn and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony
Hidden behind the historical facade of the former Frankfurt Opera is a vibrant location for concerts and conferences. At Alte Oper, there are 490.000 visitors for approximately 460 events every year, including classical music and entertainment, shows for kids, youth and families, conferences, and unique events.
Alte Oper seems like a programmatic work center and stands out through its own thematic events, and starting with the 2021/2022 season, the motto is "Fratopia" - a homage to the city and, at the same time, a pursuit of ideas for the future that affect society, as well as the concert related business. The new conceptualized concerts bring the audience and the performers together and present novel musical experiences.
During the 2024-2025 season, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony can look back on a 95-year-long history. "I am very pleased with this season, it is multifaceted and has many beautiful musical colours," - Alain Altinoglu declared for the season opening, the well-known ensemble's musical director. For this season, he decided to conduct six performances enriched by soloists like Gautier Capuçon, Francesco Piemontesi, and Hilary Hahn.
The famous violinist is making a comeback together with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony to perform Beethoven's Concerto Op. 61 in D major for violin and orchestra. Hilary Hahn debuted in Germany with this concert in 1995. The 15-year-old youth was already able to perform with incredible confidence and an impeccable tonality. On May 9th, as part of the "Focus Hilary Hahn" event at Alte Oper Frankfurt, exactly 30 years later, she will perform Beethoven again, with her self-assurance and a unique tonal warmth.
For this season, Alain Altinoglu decided to continue the Shostakovich cycle, therefore marking five years since the famous composer's passing. "When it comes to this composer, you have to dare to reach the limits of instrumental possibilities," said Alain Altinoglu, who, alongside the ensemble he leads, plans to complete Dmitri Shostakovich's Integral of Symphonies. As part of this project, Alain Altinoglu and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony propose, for the evening of May 9th, Symphony No. 8 Op. 65 in C minor - a work that the composer himself called "an attempt to mirror the war's horrible tragedy".
