Starting on June 14, 2025, summer evenings will gain a different aura on the Radio România Muzical frequencies, along with the launch of a new evening show titled Opera Mia. Conceived as a veritable homage to lyrical art, the show proposes an intimate and refined approach to opera, bringing to the forefront not only the masterpieces of the international repertoire, but also the stories of those who love them with passion and live them with intensity.

Opera Mia will air every weekend of the summer, between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM, the Saturday evening editions being produced by Irina Cristina Vasilescu, and the Sunday ones by Florica Jalbă.

An emotional selection

What makes the Opera Mia series unique is the fact that the musical choices are the result of a fruitful collaboration with lovers of the genre, music lovers, or specialists in the field, most of them personalities from the Romanian and international cultural world. Each opera broadcast is a recommendation received directly from a passionate lyrical art enthusiast who wanted to share with the listeners his own deep connection with a particular stage creation. Thus, Opera Mia becomes more than a musical show: it is a collection of sound portraits, confessions, and subjective choices transformed into collective experiences. Imagine listening, for example, to Mozart's Don Giovanni, an opera accompanied by the thoughts of a musician who has sung it dozens of times, or delving into the drama of Bellini's Norma guided by the impressions of a doctor who was fascinated by the metaphysics of love that goes to the point of sacrifice. Each edition of the show is, in its own way, a bridge between sensibilities - a musical journey accompanied by an unseen guide, who chose that opera not only for its beauty, but also for the deeply personal meaning it carries.

Three integral hours of music - a space dedicated to reflection and emotion

In an age when it feels like all of us live on fast-forward, and the fragmented things seem to (also) dominate the cultural scene, Opera Mia offers the opposite: the integral picture. Each broadcast is dedicated to a work presented in its complete form. The space of the broadcast becomes a sound sanctuary in which the audience is invited to immerse themselves, to listen with patience and openness, to let themselves be carried away by the force of the narrative and the beauty of the sound. The choice to broadcast complete works is not accidental. It represents a gesture of trust in the audience and in its capacity to receive, in a profound way, the complexity of a sound and dramatic universe. It is also an artistic statement: the work deserves our time, our attention, and our abandonment.

Opera as a confession and an intimate space

The show's title isn't just poetic, but also a revelation. Opera Mia isn't just about "my" opera, as a reference to the creators or the channel that airs it. It is about your work, that of each listener, as well as that of each guest who has chosen to open his or her soul. Each edition is built on such a confession; a short argument in which the guest introduces the listeners to the universe of the recommended work, explaining why he or she chose that particular title.

Even more than that, by basing each edition on a recommendation from opera enthusiasts, the show also traces a kind of affective map of opera in the 21st century. Opera mia is thus also an invitation to reflect on questions such as: What does opera mean today? For whom does it (still) matter? How do we (still) listen to it, in a hyperactive world saturated with visual and sound stimuli? Why does the genre continue to be relevant?
