Special edition In Memoriam Mircea Tiberian
The Jazz Planet programme on Sunday, October 26th, at 6:00 p.m., is dedicated to the memory of Mircea Tiberian, the musician who left us recently, leaving behind deep sadness and profound gratitude for his immense contribution to the development of jazz in Romania.
Alongside Mircea Tiberian's rich musical creation stands his pedagogical activity, to which we owe, to a great extent, the very existence of a jazz scene in Romania. Literally, most of the jazz artists who have made their mark in the past three decades were trained by Mircea Tiberian in the specialized department he founded at the National University of Music, at the beginning of the 1990s.
The knowledge and vision he shared with his young disciples were the result of decades of musical career, which we will try to reflect on during Jazz Planet. We make no claim to present a "best of" Mircea Tiberian, but we will try to touch upon as many facets as possible of his extensive creation. From his first LP, recorded with Anca Parghel, we will move to Interzone, his European ensemble, then to his solo piano albums, his trios with Chris Dahlgren, Maurice De Martin, or John Betsch, and his collaborations with the Radio Big Band.
For five decades, Mircea Tiberian was a fundamental reference point for Romanian jazz, a model for younger artists, and a significant presence on the international stage, where he found kindred spirits among high-caliber improvisers from the avant-garde sphere. We hope you will enjoy our modest tribute to the artist Mircea Tiberian.
