Brahms and Bruckner with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Manfred Honeck
A program steeped in the Romantic era presents two masterpieces by Brahms and Bruckner, interpreted by artists who have explored these works more deeply than anyone else: violinist Leonidas Kavakos and conductor Manfred Honeck. Bruckner's Symphony No. 9, dedicated "to the good Lord", as the composer himself wrote in the manuscript of his final symphony and Brahms's Violin Concerto in D major are the works featured in the concert evenings of November 13th and 14th 2025, at Alte Oper in Frankfurt.
The Austrian Manfred Honeck is known as one of today's foremost conductors of Bruckner. He received three Grammy Award nominations in 2020 for his recording of Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Critics have admired Honeck for achieving a perfectly balanced approach to the grand symphonic architecture of this music.
Equally highly praised is Leonidas Kavakos's recording of Brahms's Violin Concerto, where the musician focuses on musical equilibrium. According to The Guardian, the specialized music magazine, it was described as "the best performance to appear on CD in years". The violinist himself remarks that Brahms's concerto is unlike any other violin concerto. He also added that "the violin is not meant merely to sing beautifully and melodically. Here we have this truly incredible connection with the orchestra and the sound must be as unified as possible."
A 100% Romantic program featuring Leonidas Kavakos, an artist who "burns" on stage and Manfred Honeck, a conductor who "ventures deep beneath the surface of the music", mastering the sound with his elegant, beautiful and refined expressive gesture.
