The Ploieºti 'Paul Constantinescu' Philharmonic in its 60th Season

Thursday, 7 February 2013 , ora 11.33

The city of Ploieºti hosts the 60th concert season of the "Paul Constantinescu" Philharmonic. Corneliu Irimia, the institution manager, gave us more information about the events that marked this celebration and the Philharmonic's most recent musical projects:

"We are very glad to be part of the institutions with a rather long life, because 60 years ago, thanks to the willingness of music lovers in Ploieºti, the State Philharmonic came into being, and 17 years ago it took the name of the great composer Paul Constantinescu. We are proud to be on this map of culture institutions and that we are celebrating 60 years of activity. In November we had a special programme; we cannot help but mention the late conductor Ion Baciu, who left us 17 years ago, but for the past 17 years we have been commemorating him with special shows. This time we did the same, and the Ploieºti philharmonic month started on 1st November with an extraordinary concert, In memoriam Ion Baciu, conducted by master Ilarion Ionescu-Galaþi.

Over the last five years master Postãvaru, our permanent conductor, has managed to take a journey through the entire musical world, and now it was opera's turn. Thus, the music lovers in Ploieºti could listen to important works, arias, duos and overtures from famous operas in January, with soloists like great soprano Irina Iordãchescu and young tenor Mario Vasiliu.

Moreover, knowing that this year we are celebrating the Wagner-Verdi bicentenary, we also had special concerts that included works by these great composers. In Ploieºti there has been a tight connection with the "Carmen Sylva" Art High School, which gave very important people - a lot of graduates are now employed at the Philharmonic, and we organise those concerts where our most valuable young musicians are soloists of the "Paul Constantinescu" Philharmonic in our city. Even this week (28th January - 3rd February) we have such a concert where we enjoy the presence of six future valuable musicians."
