Season Opening at La Scala in Milan, Live on Radio Romania Music

7th December is the date that traditionally opens the season of performances at La Scala in Milan, the prestigious Lyric Theatre stage, one of the most important and representative worldwide. This year the premiere of La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi was chosen, the iconic work of the composer whose 200th anniversary was celebrated on 10th October, 2013.

Radio Romania Music broadcasts live this performance on Saturday, 7th December, during ‘An Evening at the the Opera’ programme starting at 18:.55, and you can also listen to it simultaneously on the frequencies of Radio Romania Culture. Luminita Arvunescu and her guest, Dr. Stephan Poen will be the hosts.

In the new production of "Traviata" by Verdi at La Scala in Milan, the main roles are supported by world renowned names: the German soprano Diana Damrau (Violetta), acclaimed by the American press as “the leading coloratura soprano in the world” and the polish Piotr Beczala (Alfredo Germont), one of the most famous tenors of our time.

The production is signed by Russian director Dmitri Tcherniakov and Daniele Gatti will be the conductor.

The next performance on ‘Opera in Famous Performances’ is scheduled on 14th December, starting at 20:00: the first live broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera in New York in the 2013-2014 season. In the programme: Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi, conducted by James Levine.
