The Romanian Radio Children's Choir, one of Romania’s artistic ambassadors abroad  celebrates 70 years since its foundation this year - The Romanian Radio Children's Choir will participate as a special guest, in the third edition of the “Gavriil Musicescu” International Youth Choral Festival, where the “Cantus Mundi” International Choir Competition was organized in Iași between 4th and 5th July.

The event will take place in the capital of Moldavia starting on 1st July. The festival reunites over thirty choirs  from Romania, the Democratic Republic of Moldavia and Ukraine, and along with the Romanian Radio Children’s Choir, there are invited other Romanian ensembles such as: the “MADRIGAL” National Chamber Choir, the PRELUDIU Chamber Choir, the CANTORES AMICITIAE Choral, the TRONOS Choir of the Romanian Patriarchy, the BYZANTION Psaltic Music Ensemble.

Under the wand of conductor VOICU POPESCU, the Romanian Radio Children’s Choir will be present in Iași in three events in two days, a truly musical “marathon”!

On Saturday, 4th July, at 19:00, in the Copou Park, there will take place the Extraordinary Choral Concert outdoors. Along with the MADRIGAL National Chamber Choir and choirs from the “Cantus Mundi” project, children choirs from Romania, Ukraine, Democratic Republic of Moldavia and the Romanian Radio Children’s Choir will sing at the “Cantus Mundi” gala, which will end the choir competition undergone in Iași, within the auspices of the festival. The Radio Romania ensemble prepared a beautiful repertoire,  adapted to the context and a work signed by composer Gavriil Musicescu himself, to whom this festival is dedicated to. The ending of the “Cantus Mundi” Gala will be a special moment when all participants will sing three representative works from  the choral repertoire.

On Sunday, 5th July, at 10:30, the Saint Stephen the Great Church in Iași will host another concert of the Romanian Radio Children’s Choir, a religious music repertoire this time. The evening of 5th July will offer the Iași public the chance to meet the ensemble from Bucharest for the third and last time.

At 19:00, in the elegant hall of the  “Vasile Alecsandri” National Theatre there will take place the ending gala of the “Gavriil Musicescu” International Youth Choral Festival, where the Romanian Radio Children’s Choir will go onstage along with the other ensembles participating in  the  event. There will be onstage to perform on the last evening, not only the choirs  that will be awarded the first prize in  each section of the competition  and the Great Prize, but also the honorary guests, the MADRIGAL National Chamber Choir conducted by Anna Ungureanu, the PRELUDIU Choir conducted by Voicu Enăchescu, the Romanian Radio Children’s Choir, conducted by Voicu Popescu, the TRONOS Choir of the Romanian Patriarchy conducted  by the Protopsalt Archdeacon Mihail Bucă, CANTORES AMICITIAE Choral – conducted by university professor dr. Nicolae Gâscă, the BYZANTION Psaltic Music Ensemble – by university assistant  Dr. Adrian Sârbu. The repertoire of the Romanian Radio Children’s Choir will be this time, too, of a high difficulty level, proving the artistic virtuosity of the ensemble.

The access of the public to all events of the festival will be free.

The Romanian Radio Children’s Choir, in the series of special events programmed for this anniversary year, has already prepared several tours: in Lugano in Switzerland and in Munich – where they will perform during the finale of the prestigious “Let the People Sing” International Choral Competition, organized under the auspices of the European Broadcasting Union.
