Verdi’s Requiem Live from the „Covent Garden” Royal Opera in London
"Libera Me", "Sanctus", "Dies Irae" and "Lacrimosa" - these are just some of the splendid, moving and famous in-their-own-right musical masterpieces that will grace the live broadcast of the Royal Opera House's production of Verdi's Requiem, to which we invite you to tune in. In a noble and silent parade in front of our very souls, the evening's program will bring back: Gioachino Rossini - for whose funeral Verdi composed Libera Me in 1868, Alessandro Manzoni - a poet in whose memory the Requiem was performed for the first time at Basilica San Marco in Milan, Teresa Stolz - the amazing soprano in many of Verdi's premieres and first soloist (along with mezzo-soprano Maria Waldmann, tenor Giuseppe Capponi and bass Ormondo Maini) of the Requiem at San Marco and at Teatro alla Scala three days later, and Giuseppe Verdi himself - silently and solemnly walking without showing off his genius and success, though fully aware of the value of this score...

The Requiem will be performed by a vocal quartet made up of soprano Krassimira Stoyanova, mezzosoprano Jamie Barton, tenor Benjamin Bernheim and bass Gabor Bretz - all distinguished artists of our time, and conducted by the Royal London Opera's Antonio Pappano, musical director since 2002 and self-proclaimed "servant" of both Verdi and his contemporary Wagner. The two composers are very prominent this season, beginning with the Wagnerian opera, The Valkyrie, on the 18th of October, and continuing on October 23rd with Verdi's Requiem, which Radio Romania Musical will broadcast live...
